Congratulations to Art Club Advisor and Instructor!

Susan Mackowiak received the 2014 Outstanding Organization Advisor. Susan is an advisor to the Exit 9 Art Club and received this distinguished award because she has influenced the integrity of Ivy Tech through her professional and personal associations. Art club members said Susan is a classic example of “going above and beyond” her responsibilities. Susan provides insightful and helpful advice on the many ideas and fundraisers the club has undertaken. She is an integral part of the Exit 9 club.

And, Melissa Dettlinger received the 2014 Friend of the Students Award because she inspires her students and pushes them to do their very best. She is known as the “Momma Bear” of Visual Communication and goes above and beyond of what is expected of her by getting to know her students and getting to know their strengths and weaknesses in order to help them efficiently. She presents the material in each of her classes consistently so everyone knows what to expect and it really makes learning easier when your teacher has classes clearly organized like Melissa. She is always available When you need help with homework, projects, or if you just need someone to talk to. She also doesn’t accept work if she knows it isn’t your best. She has no problem encouraging you to try again and that you can do better. I have witnessed this and how it benefits not only me, but my fellow classmates. She really embodies the Friend of the Students.
