2017 Art Jam Call for Entries

High School Art Competition DEADLINE TO ENTER IS MARCH 6, 2017.

Attention all High School Students with an interest in the visual arts, currently enrolled at a Southern Indiana or Metro Louisville public or private High School or College Preparatory School. If you paint, illustrate, sculpt, design, draw, photograph, or just create art, you are eligible to enter Ivy Tech Southern Indiana Art Jam Competition. Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors are eligible. All student entries must have been created as the result of a real classroom assignment or can be worked on independently with direction from your instructor and be your interpretation of the topic, “Moving Forward.” Moving Forward is an extension of a project that is part of a statewide initiative at Ivy Tech — the MLK Jr. Legacy Project.

The MLK Jr. Legacy Project is an ARTivism exhibition to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ARTivism combines “art” and “activism” created to increase social, environmental, and technical awareness in our community through art.
All submissions should answer the guiding question: How do I interpret social change in my community with the theme of “Moving Forward” in the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.?
Project Objectives:
  • To engage in conversation and interpretations of how Dr. King’s legacy can influence our actions today
  • To impact our community by embracing and living Dr. King’s dream
  • To bring focus and attention to the relationships and events that illustrate how people are bringing unity to their world
  • To use visual arts as active forms of creative expression
